BLOG MAKEOVER + AD GIVEAWAY!

tadaaa! i have finally finished my surprise blog makeover! it wasn't until now that i realized how it so very much needed one. starting tomorrow i will be posting quite frequently again due to all my excitement.

to celebrate with my readers: i am giving away 6 ad spaces to the first 6 that comment and meet two requirements: you must leave your email address as a form of contact and you must follow this blog (no funny business about the follow either)! the first to comment gets the tippity-top! all ads must be 130 pixels wide and no larger than 130 pixels in height. this idea was graciously inspired by the tiny little buffalo. ready, set, go!

& to celebrate with myself i can't think of a better way then re-watching my favorite audrey film, funny face. cheers!

WHAT HAT ARE YOU?

what hat fits you best? i think i could wear them all! if i had to choose one, it would be the romantic. the playful is a close second. it seems as though autumn is practically here. it's time to prepare for hats and coats!
life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.

YOU LOOK SO PRETTY IN YOUR FAMOUS BLUE RAINCOAT

i am irrationally in love with this painting from the tory burch blog. do you have a signature item? i actually remember people by what they wear often. i think my mother's (old) high-waisted blue jean shorts are what i wear the most, but i believe wearing my tiffany-blue pumps is when i get most compliments. a series of these for friends and their famous garments would be so sweet, no?

MODERN DAY HEPBURN

sources: one, two, three, four

these pictures remind me of a modern-day golightly or stockton. there's something sweet about using her last name as a term of endearment.

THE THIN MAN

i don't think i've seen a more likable couple on screen than these two. myrna loy and william powell are impeccably funny. the thin man, starring loy & powell, was showing last night at the gaslamp theater. i won 3 pins from trivia questions, that's the most i've ever won! the screenwriting was arguably the best of its time. i highly recommend this movie if you're in the mood for comedy, murder and mystery.

BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD

i can not recall the number of times i cried during this film. i think what made counting impossible was right before the moment where i felt almost composed, something would hit me and blend all the tears together. usually in other movies it's the one big cry or teary-eyes here and there for me, but not with this one. no way mister. these were cries that wrinkled my skirt.

you might think i didn't enjoy this but that is quite contrary. i felt so moved. it was incredible. i believe my 10-year-old-poor-but-happy-island-girl part of my life resonated most with this film. there was also the tough (but blatantly loving) father.

this film is so real and surreal, the way they intertwined the story with the child's fantasy was magic. my favorite scenes were with the mother, especially the scene with the stove. that was simply beautiful.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NATALIE WOOD

happy birthday, for whom the yearly wishes would have made 75. natalie wood is one of my most influential icons. she embodies a quality that is just as sweet as it is sensuous. i'll be celebrating with one of my personal favorites, splendor in the grass.

WHOLE PEACH PIES

how great is this? individual whole peach pies is a perfect thing to make for a party of 1 or even 8. what i like about this recipe is that it's only 5 ingredients! baking can be a little daunting sometimes (as shown on my drunk kitchen) but this definitely seems like something i can tackle.

i have my second craft club meeting on sunday. this club is so i can create a sense of community, especially now that i am transitioning from an outside job to working at home full-time (7 days!).

for people out of college: do you have trouble making/keeping new friends? i spotted this article on why is it hard to make friends over 30 at a cup of jo. i definitely relate - even though i'm 22 years old. i think another contributing factor is that i am across the country from the friends i made in highschool, and the friends i made in college are back in their homes. you might be asking yourself, what does this have to do with pies? the only proper excuse i have for this ramble is that i'm making pies for said club. a way to a person's heart is through their stomachs, right?

printer friendly recipe

recipe found on: yummy mummy kitchen i've been scrolling through yummymummykitchen all morning, definitely hits the spot for the sweet tooth lady that i am!

DIONNE'S NAUTICAL WEDDING

as i was re-watching clueless last week, i found myself daydreaming about how pretty dionne's wedding would be!
dionne davenport: no, no, no, no. when i get married, i'm gonna have a sailor dress, but it's going to be a gown, and all my bridesmaids are gonna wear sailor hats... with veils.

d's outfit: nautical knit jumper, maxi skirt, palazzo bruciato flats, ahoy headwrap, diamond ring,

cher and tai's outfits: sailor hats, bimi flats, sonia sailor dress, j.crew dot veil

i needed to include amber in this. her outfits were always my favorite. dollar sign sailor hat? gotta love her.

FOOD + FLOWERS

sources: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8

there's something especially pleasing about flowers. aesthetically pretty, smells nice and feels wonderful to give. mixing it with my favorite thing, food, might just be the best idea ever. definitely rounding up petals for my next girly party.

CASUAL FRIDAY

note to self: leg is better than cleavage, sweaters and skirts are lovely, tomboy is pretty, frocks are free & add long cardigan to bucket list. happy weekend loves.

twilight zone

i love twilight zone marathons on holidays. this episode is my favorite. how can anyone be ugly if there's no one exactly like them? embrace your health and praise yourself.

ps: i don't think there are flaws, just flawed perception. that's not to say i don't have my share of insecurities. i just think it's wrong to inflict those insecurities on someone else's personal traits.

KARA HAYWARD AS SUZY IN MOONRISE KINGDOM

pictured: books, lip balm, eyeliner, eye shadow, orange dress, collarlilies, binoculars, belt, oxfords, socks, kitten, basket purse, yellow suitcase, raven mask, turntable, beetle earrings, feather and ink, stamp, pink paper, envelope, shears, dress and capelet, beret, yellow shift, tuna labels, francoise hardy, hair pins, tuna can, plaid briefcase. revisiting this post.

(class picture) if you'd notice, i have repeated some of the items i used in anna karina as marianne in pierrot le fou. i like to see moonrise kingdom as a younger version of the film, omitting the betrayal.

this was my birthday flick (last day of spring, june 20th. nothing short of my expectations. i suspect i will be watching it for another couple rounds, one in a suzy-esque outfit and one in my boyfriend's old cub scout uniform.
